Corona Treater vs. Plasma Cleaner – Why Pay More?

Many people working in plastic printing, lamination, or adhesive bonding ask the same question: A corona treater costs only a few thousand yuan – why should I spend much more on a plasma cleaner?

The answer is simple: they serve entirely different applications.

Corona treatment relies on highvoltage discharge to oxidize the material surface. It works well for films, flat sheets, and simple geometries, but its treatment depth and uniformity are limited. More importantly, the effect decays rapidly over time – in many cases, the surface reverts to its original state within hours or even minutes.


A plasma cleaner – especially the low pressure vacuum type – can handle three dimensional complex structures, micro gaps, and multi material assemblies, delivering uniform and long lasting results. Even more critical is versatility: by selecting different process gases, plasma systems can perform cleaning, activation, etching, and even thin film coating, whereas corona only offers a superficial "surface zap."

Consider a precision connector with multiple metal pins inside a plastic housing – corona can never reach those internal surfaces, while vacuum plasma treats every exposed area without any dead zones. Similarly, for hydrophilic coating pretreatment on the inner walls of medical catheters, corona is simply powerless.
